The Big O

Orgasm. I've seen that word so many times today I've forgotten when it is or isn't socially acceptable to say it. Hence why I made my Dad super uncomfortable by openly talking about today's project.

So I volunteer as a research assistant under my old professor and his grad student. He taught me Human Sexuality so I was super excited when I got this position because it's exactly the type of research I find most fascinating. Instead of a regular schedule they just contact all the RAs for sporadic projects. The latest project is a survey study on porn and relationships - whether and why people watch porn while in a relationship and whether and why they watch it with their partner.

My job is to read over the participants' answers and code them into certain categories. It's safe to say, I had an entertaining time. I learned quite a bit too. Unfortunately, it's worse than I thought for you ladies. A lot of females were talking about how they watched porn because their partner didn't know what they were doing, there were even some that said they had to watch it after having sex so they could actually get off - sad.

I always had the participant's gender and participant at the top of the screen. At some point I got it mixed up and thought the participant number was their age, so by the time I got to the 70's and 80's everything seemed a lot more interesting. I was also wondering how my supervisor managed to convince so many seniors to openly talk about sex. But no, I was wrong, and things weren't as interesting then.

So that was today's project. I have a lot of stories of things I've already done, so who knows which I'll talk about next.

First Post!

This is my first post, it's so exciting, holey moley and stuff! I've thought about making a blog like this for awhile now. You see, I want to be a clinical psychologist one day that specializes in sexuality issues, particularly LGBT youth. However, in order for that to happen I need to complete my 4-year BA, then spend a minimum of 2 years completing my Masters and another 4 completing my PhD. Right now I'm going into my third year of my BA.

This year I've been focusing on building up my resume in order to better my chances of getting into grad school. Grades don't always cut it. They say it's harder to get into grad school for clinical psych than it is to get into med school - the lovely perks of being in a popular program.

It's safe to say I've found myself getting involved in a varied assortment of fascinating and sometimes peculiar projects. This blog is mostly for myself so that when I am a super cool and successful psychologist I can look back on the strange things I did, but if anyone else finds it interesting then that would be a fantastic bonus.
